We've basically been on the market since 2009 and hosting was more of a side business for customers whose websites and projects we implemented back then. Over the years, we have worked with countless data centers and hosting companies and increasingly felt the need to do everything that bothered us about them ourselves — to live web hosting for our customers exactly as we would have wished for ourselves.

2020
- Start of the year: While half the world is standing still in the corona lockdown, the capacities in the previous data center (firstcolo) can no longer ensure our growth — it requires around half a year of planning and preparationuntil we start moving our infrastructure to “maincubes” with virtually no downtime
- Our own AS58212 sees the light of day in our first real “routing rack” — we have planned months for this, this time implementing everything according to “best practice” and not repeating past mistakes
- Avoro is moving to maincubes together with our colocation customers, marking the start of our new location in the middle of the year
- The first product at the new location is our new generation of vServers, with which we are introducing an I/O guarantee for the first time to counteract the bad reputation of vServers storage performance
- At the end of the year, the Move to “maincubes” completed and we are in second place for “Web Host of the Year”
2021
- In winter, we will start working on the merger between PHP-Friends and Avoro to turn this into dataforest
- Shortly thereafter, we connect our network to the world's largest Internet hub DE-CIX Frankfurt and thus optimize latencies for our customers
- In the middle of the year, planning for the Building your own data center space within the “maincube”, which is intended to ensure long-term growth through flexible expandability and at the same time offer us complete freedom in designing our infrastructure
- At the end of the year, we will be taking the First place in web host of the year in the vServer category and put our new data center space into operation — a two-month effort in which we work almost around the clock for our customers
- Shortly after, we open a POP at Interxion Frankfurt to launch our own connection to Deutsche Telekom (AS3320)
- Just in time for Christmas, we can announce the (finally completed) merger of PHP-Friends GmbH with Harmony Solutions GmbH to form dataforest GmbH
2022
- Official expansion of PHP-Friends products to include colocation and dedicated servers, which up to now has been more of a secret tip than a public offer
- Development of a completely new virtualization infrastructure based on Proxmox and Ceph, which is intended to house almost all products in the long term, can be scaled almost indefinitely and highly available is
- In midsummer, we will commission the first expansion of our data center space
- At the end of the year, the new virtualization infrastructure will be used productively for Avoro for the first time and will be considered stable
2023
- Expanding our Colocation and transit business, which is becoming increasingly important for our company
- We exceed 10,000 active customers and 15,000 active IPv4 addresses
- We are extending our regular support hours to Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 0 a.m.
- For the first time, we are among the top 3 “Web Hoster of the Year” in three categories: vServer, Managed Server and Colocation
- PHP-Friends is also being converted to our new virtualization structure with the first new products, our own vServer administration interface Goes online
- We are running out of space again - we are ordering the last expansion stage of our data center space in MainCubes FRA01 and are starting to search for further locations in Frankfurt
2024
- Setting up dedicated edge routing in Interxion POP and thus expanding our backbone to 1 Tbit/s
- Implementation of our new DDoS protection under the project name zero-loss
- Successive migration of all IP networks (prefixes) to our new terabit backbone and new DDoS protection, successfully completed during the year
- Extension of our external connection to include various transit and peering partners with a Total capacity of over 3 Tbit/s
- Back to the roots, in a sense: We are moving into new data center space in “firstcolo”, but this time as a completely autonomous operator of network and server infrastructure
- We are mitigating the first 2 Tbps DDoS attack on one of our customers — successful
